In-N-Out expansion to Arkansas, Mississippi and Oklahoma remains a possibility rather than a commitment, owner and president Lynsi Snyder said in an October interview. The California-based burger chain identified the three states as potential future markets as it builds farther from its longtime Western base.

Snyder discussed the states in an interview with actor Terry Crews that In-N-Out posted on its website and Facebook on Oct. 22, according to USA TODAY. She described Arkansas, Mississippi and Oklahoma as states that “could be on the way,” not as announced restaurant projects.

Why is In-N-Out considering Arkansas, Mississippi and Oklahoma?

The company told USA TODAY on Nov. 2 that each state is near its Lancaster, Texas, distribution center and patty-making facility. That supply infrastructure is the stated reason the company gave for identifying the three states as possible markets.

No specific cities, restaurant counts or opening dates in Arkansas, Mississippi or Oklahoma were announced. Fortune also reported that Snyder’s comments pointed to possible expansion, rather than confirmed openings.

New Mexico has a separate timetable

In-N-Out gave USA TODAY a more definite update on New Mexico. Its first restaurants in the state are expected to open in late 2027, the company said. New Mexico would become the chain’s 11th state.

The distinction is important: New Mexico has a company-provided opening timeframe, while Arkansas, Mississippi and Oklahoma are under consideration.

Where does In-N-Out operate now?

In-N-Out operates about 445 company-owned restaurants across 10 states and does not franchise, the company told USA TODAY. Its current footprint includes:

  • Arizona
  • California
  • Colorado
  • Idaho
  • Nevada
  • Oregon
  • Tennessee
  • Texas
  • Utah
  • Washington

The chain first moved beyond California with a Las Vegas restaurant in November 1992, according to company history reported by USA TODAY. Its first Tennessee locations opened in Antioch and Lebanon on Dec. 10, 2025.

In-N-Out also plans to add restaurants in California, Fortune reported. For now, the company has provided no commitments beyond its late-2027 New Mexico plan for the three states Snyder mentioned.
