Trump Media plans to sell businesses a licensed real-time feed of posts from prominent Truth Social accounts, giving paying customers faster access to material the company says can move markets. The plan matters because President Donald Trump uses Truth Social for official communications, and The Verge reported that Trump’s family is the largest shareholder in the publicly traded company.
Trump Media announced Thursday that its new service, called Truth API, will launch Aug. 1. The company described it as a data feed aimed at businesses that want the quickest access to posts from the platform’s most influential users.
Interim Trump Media CEO Kevin McGurn said in the company’s announcement that Truth Social posts already affect markets. He also said Trump Media expects the API to become a recurring revenue source for the company.
What the API offers
According to Trump Media, Truth API will deliver posts using standard data-delivery methods and provide updates in milliseconds. The company said it expects the feed to run around the clock and include an archive of Truth Social posts dating to 2022.
The company did not disclose pricing for the service in its announcement. It also did not identify the customers expected to use the feed, beyond describing the product as intended for businesses.
The Verge reported that similar data feeds are common among social media platforms. The difference in this case is the role of the president’s own account and the ownership structure around the company that operates the network.
Trump’s account is central to the platform
Donald Trump is the most-followed user on Truth Social, with 12.9 million followers, according to The Verge. The Verge also reported that he regularly posts official communications there before they appear on other platforms.
Other high-ranking accounts on Truth Social include accounts belonging to Trump’s sons, FBI Director Kash Patel and the White House, The Verge reported. Those accounts have followings in the millions.
The new feed creates a paid route for rapid access to posts from accounts that Trump Media itself describes as influential. For traders and other market participants, even small timing differences can matter when public statements affect expectations about policy, companies or the economy.
The company’s announcement frames the API as a business product built around demand for faster access to Truth Social content. The Verge reported that the arrangement is more sensitive than comparable social media data products because revenue from the service would go to Trump Media while the Trump family remains its largest shareholder.
