Leaked images published by Android Headlines suggest Samsung is preparing a wider foldable phone alongside updates to its Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Z Flip lines. The images arrive ahead of a summer Galaxy Unpacked event that The Verge says is expected to bring Samsung’s next foldable devices.

Android Headlines published images showing case designs for two Galaxy Z Fold 8 models and a Galaxy Z Flip 8, with the phones appearing inside the cases. The most notable device is a wider foldable that appears to depart from Samsung’s narrower book-style Fold design.

The wider model shown in the images has a passport-like shape, according to The Verge. The images also show a selfie camera on the outside display and two rear cameras, rather than the three-camera rear layout used on recent Z Fold models, The Verge reported.

Android Headlines’ images do not show the larger inside screen fully open. A rear view of the device, however, gives a clearer look at the broader format, according to The Verge.

Earlier leaks pointed to the same design

The images match several details seen in earlier leaks. The Verge reported that a purported dummy unit surfaced in May, and leaker Ice Universe posted a fresh photo this week of what appeared to be another dummy unit.

Those earlier images also showed a wider body, a cover-screen selfie camera and a two-camera rear setup, The Verge reported. Taken together, the leaks suggest Samsung may be testing a wider Fold design separate from its established book-style foldable.

The naming remains unclear. Recent leaks cited by 9to5Google suggest the wider device may be called the Galaxy Z Fold 8, while the more familiar narrow foldable could be branded the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra.

Android Headlines also shared images of what it identified as the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra and Galaxy Z Flip 8. The Verge reported that those devices look similar to Samsung’s current Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7 models.

Launch timing could put Samsung ahead of Apple

Samsung is expected to announce its new foldables at a summer Galaxy Unpacked event, according to The Verge. The event is reportedly set for July 22, which The Verge noted would be later than Samsung’s usual timing.

If that schedule holds, Samsung’s wider Fold would arrive before Apple’s reported foldable iPhone. The Verge has reported that Apple’s own wide-style foldable iPhone competitor is currently expected to debut in September.

Samsung has not officially announced the devices described in the leaks. Until the company confirms the products, the images and names remain unofficial.
