Samsung’s next Galaxy Unpacked event is set for July 22 at 9AM ET, giving the company a stage for its next round of mobile hardware. The Verge reports that foldable phones are likely to draw the most attention, with leaks pointing to changes across the Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip lines.
According to The Verge, Samsung is holding the event in London for invited guests, while viewers elsewhere can watch online. Samsung plans to stream the presentation through its news site and its YouTube channel.
How to watch
The stream is scheduled to begin at 9AM ET and 6AM PT on July 22, according to The Verge. Samsung’s global newsroom is available at news.samsung.com/global, and the company’s YouTube event page is available at YouTube.
The event is expected to center on Samsung’s foldable lineup, The Verge reports. Samsung has teased a “new shape” for its foldable phones, and The Verge says leaks have pointed to a wider Galaxy Z Fold 8.
Foldable phones in focus
Leaker Evan Blass shared images that The Verge says appear to show the coming Galaxy Z Fold 8. The leaked material describes a device that closes into a compact, passport-like shape and opens into a broader display.
According to Blass’s leak, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 may use a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy processor. The same leaked materials list two rear 50-megapixel cameras, covering wide and ultrawide shooting, plus 10-megapixel cameras on both the cover display and the inner screen, The Verge reports.
The leak also says the Galaxy Z Fold 8 could reach up to 26 hours of video playback, according to The Verge. A separate model, described in Blass’s materials as the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, would keep the slimmer and taller shape of the Galaxy Z Fold 7 while adding a 5,000mAh battery rated for up to 27 hours of video playback.
Blass’s leaked materials also include a Galaxy Z Flip 8, The Verge reports. That device is shown with a 4,300mAh battery and a camera setup that appears unchanged: a 10-megapixel front camera, plus 50-megapixel wide and 12-megapixel ultrawide cameras on the back.
Watches and smart glasses may appear
Samsung is also expected to show new wearables, including a Galaxy Watch Ultra 2, according to The Verge. Blass’s leak says that watch will be 12 percent thinner than the prior version and include a Snapdragon Wear Elite processor, an 800mAh battery and a display rated up to 5,000 nits.
Android Headlines has reported that the Galaxy Watch 9 is also rumored to use the Snapdragon Wear Elite chip while keeping a familiar design, according to The Verge. The event could also bring more information on Samsung’s AI-powered smart glasses, which The Verge says are expected this fall with designs from Warby Parker and Gentle Monster.
