Samsung targets foldable crease with Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra
Samsung says its Flex Titanium display stack makes the Fold 8 Ultra’s central crease far less noticeable than on earlier foldables.

Samsung has added a Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra to its foldable lineup, with the central screen crease presented as the main advance. The change matters because the crease has long been one of the most visible compromises in book-style foldable phones.
The device was shown as part of Samsung’s July 2026 foldable launch, according to The Verge. David Imel of The Verge said he spent three hours with the phone and found the crease on the inner display difficult to see and hard to feel unless he pressed firmly on the center of the screen.
Samsung attributes the change to a display system it calls Flex Titanium. The company says the foldable screen now uses a titanium film beneath the OLED panel instead of the polymer film used in earlier foldables.
According to Samsung, that titanium film has 20 times the mechanical stiffness of the older polymer layer. The film is also bonded to a new titanium plate, a combination Samsung says reduces the visible crease across the folding area.
Imel wrote that the crease was not completely gone under deliberate pressure, but said it was minor enough that typical use would be unlikely to draw attention to it. His hands-on account focused on the display feel rather than a full review of performance, battery life or cameras.
The Verge said the Fold 8 Ultra keeps a shape very close to last year’s Galaxy Z Fold 7. Imel also reported that Samsung improved many of the elements that made the Fold 7 stand out, though the published hands-on section centered chiefly on the crease and the new display construction.
Samsung is not the only phone maker trying to solve the crease problem. The Verge noted that Oppo has also reduced the crease on its Find N6, using a different method: 3D liquid printing to fill uneven gaps in the hinge.
The Fold 8 Ultra arrives as Samsung continues to refine a category it already sells into, while Apple is still tied to rumors about a future foldable iPhone, according to The Verge. For Samsung, the Flex Titanium design is being positioned as a visible step in making foldable displays feel less compromised.
