Samsung opens preorders for Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Flip 8 phones

Samsung has opened preorders for three foldable phones announced at Galaxy Unpacked: the Galaxy Z Flip 8, Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra. The devices are scheduled to go on sale August 7, and early buyers can get retailer credits or gift cards worth as much as $350.

The new lineup changes Samsung’s book-style foldable range by adding two Fold models. Samsung is positioning the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra as the productivity-focused option, while the standard Galaxy Z Fold 8 uses a shorter and wider shape aimed more at media use.

Prices and preorder offers

Samsung says the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra starts at $2,099.99 with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. The 512GB model costs $2,299.99, and the 1TB version costs $2,699.99. Color options are violet shadow, graphite, cream and shadow green, with shadow green sold only through Samsung’s online store.

Amazon is offering a $350 gift card with Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra preorders, while Best Buy is including a $200 gift card. Samsung is offering $200 in Samsung credit, a $30 reservation credit for customers who reserved earlier, $100 off with the code PAYPAL100 and as much as $100 off select Samsung products.

The standard Galaxy Z Fold 8 starts at $1,899 for a 256GB model with 12GB of RAM. Samsung lists the 512GB version at $2,099.99 and the 1TB version at $2,499.99. It comes in lavender, graphite and cream, plus a pistachio color sold only by Samsung online.

Amazon is also attaching a $350 gift card to Galaxy Z Fold 8 preorders, and Best Buy is offering a $200 gift card. Samsung’s direct preorder offer includes $200 in Samsung credit, the $30 reservation credit for eligible buyers, the PAYPAL100 discount code and up to $100 off select Samsung products.

What changed in the phones

Samsung says all three phones use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy processor and ship with Android 17 and One UI 9. The software includes AI features such as Gemini Intelligence task automation and Now Nudge, which surfaces suggestions such as adding an event to a calendar.

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra keeps a design similar to the Z Fold 7, according to Samsung, while adding a 5,000mAh silicon-carbon battery, 45W wired charging and 20W wireless charging. It offers up to 16GB of RAM and has a camera system with a 200-megapixel main camera and a new 50-megapixel ultrawide sensor.

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 has a 4:3 inner display, a bright 120Hz OLED screen and Samsung’s Flex Titanium display technology, which Samsung says makes the crease less noticeable. It also increases battery capacity from the Fold 7’s 4,400mAh cell to a 4,800mAh silicon-carbon battery, but uses a dual-camera system instead of the telephoto lens found on the Fold 7 and Fold 8 Ultra.

The Galaxy Z Flip 8 keeps the clamshell format, with a 6.9-inch OLED main display and a 4.1-inch OLED cover screen. Samsung says it has a 50-megapixel main camera, a 12-megapixel ultrawide camera and a 4,300mAh battery. The cover screen now supports notifications, quick settings and a full app drawer through swipe gestures, and apps can run on the outer display without Samsung’s Good Lock app.

T-Mobile promotion

T-Mobile says new and existing customers can get a Galaxy Z Fold 8 at no cost with an eligible trade-in on an Experience Beyond or Go5G Next plan. The carrier is offering the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra for $200 under the same trade-in and plan terms, and the Galaxy Z Flip 8 for $100 with a new line or eligible trade-in on qualifying Experience More, Experience Beyond, Go5G Plus or Go5G Next plans.
