Samsung’s new Galaxy Z foldables draw clear lines on size and price
Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip 8, Z Fold 8 and Z Fold 8 Ultra arrive Aug. 7 with bigger differences in screens, cameras and batteries.

Samsung used its July 2026 Unpacked event to introduce three new folding phones: the Galaxy Z Flip 8, Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra. The phones are scheduled to launch Aug. 7, according to The Verge, giving buyers a choice between a compact flip phone and two book-style foldables at sharply different prices.
Samsung’s lineup starts with the Galaxy Z Flip 8 at $1,199.99, moves to the Galaxy Z Fold 8 at $1,899.99 and tops out with the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra at $2,099.99, according to pricing listed by Samsung and reported by The Verge. All three run Android 17 and use the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy chip, according to the published specifications.
Fold 8 is the smaller book-style model
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 is a shorter book-style foldable with a 7.6-inch Dynamic OLED main display and a 5.5-inch Dynamic OLED cover screen, according to Samsung’s spec sheet cited by The Verge. It weighs 201 grams, measures 4.5mm thick when open and 9.7mm when closed, and carries a 4,800mAh battery.
Samsung lists the Fold 8 with a 50-megapixel wide rear camera and a 50-megapixel ultrawide camera. Its video recording reaches up to 8K at 30 frames per second on the main camera, while its selfie setup includes 10-megapixel cameras for both the main and cover displays.
The Fold 8 comes with 256GB, 512GB or 1TB of storage, according to Samsung’s specifications. The 256GB and 512GB versions include 12GB of RAM, while the 1TB model gets 16GB.
Fold 8 Ultra gets the largest screen and strongest camera
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra is the largest and most expensive of the three. Samsung lists it with an 8.0-inch Dynamic OLED main screen and a 6.5-inch cover display, both matching the size and resolution of last year’s Fold 7 screens, according to The Verge.
The Ultra also has the biggest battery in the group at 5,000mAh and the heaviest body at 215 grams, according to Samsung’s specifications. Its rear camera system includes a 200-megapixel wide camera, a 50-megapixel ultrawide and a 10-megapixel telephoto camera with 3X optical zoom.
Like the smaller Fold 8, the Ultra supports 45W wired charging, 20W wireless charging, Wi-Fi 7, ultra-wideband and Bluetooth 6.0, according to Samsung’s spec sheet. It also shares the Fold 8’s storage and memory options, including a 1TB version with 16GB of RAM.
Flip 8 changes less on hardware
The Galaxy Z Flip 8 is Samsung’s lower-priced folding phone in this release. Samsung lists it with a 6.9-inch Dynamic OLED main display, a 4.1-inch Super OLED cover display, a 4,300mAh battery and a weight of 180 grams.
The Verge reported that the Flip 8 has fewer hardware changes than the Fold models. Samsung’s specifications show the same battery capacity and camera setup as before, with a 50-megapixel wide camera, a 12-megapixel ultrawide camera and a 10-megapixel selfie camera.
The processor is one notable change. The Verge reported that the Flip 8 uses the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 instead of the Exynos 2500 used in the Flip 7, though it said performance differences will have to wait for a review.
All three phones carry an IP48 rating for water and dust protection, according to Samsung’s specifications. Color options vary by model, with Samsung listing Pink, Graphite, Cream and online-only Mint for the Flip 8; Lavender, Graphite, Cream and online-only Pistachio for the Fold 8; and Violet Shadow, Graphite, Cream and online-only Green Shadow for the Fold 8 Ultra.
