Philips adds AI mouth mapping to new Sonicare toothbrush
The Sonicare Next-Generation DiamondClean 9900 Prestige uses AI, pressure sensing and a touchscreen to flag missed brushing areas.

Philips is preparing a new Sonicare electric toothbrush that uses AI to track brushing and point out parts of the mouth that may need more work. The feature is meant to give users feedback during and after brushing, including warnings when they press too hard, according to Philips.
The model, called the Sonicare Next-Generation DiamondClean 9900 Prestige, is the latest entry in Philips’ smart toothbrush line. The Verge reports that it uses a third-generation AI model to follow the brush’s motion and translate that activity into guidance on the handle and screen.
How the feedback works
Philips says the brush includes a glowing ring at the base that changes color as a user brushes. The ring can indicate when too much pressure is being applied, giving a visible cue to ease up.
The toothbrush also uses pressure sensors to reduce brushing intensity when it detects excessive force, according to Philips. That adjustment is designed to make the bristles gentler on the gums while the user continues brushing.
A touchscreen on the brush lets users move through eight cleaning modes. Philips lists gum health, max clean and sensitive among the available options.
A mouth map after brushing
The screen also shows what Philips calls a mouth map. The display divides the teeth and gums into 12 sections and marks them in blue or orange to show how well the brush covered each area.
According to Philips, the 9900 Prestige monitors where the brush moves during a brushing session. When the system decides a section needs more attention, it marks that area in orange so the user can return to it.
The feature aims to remove some of the guesswork from brushing, especially for users who finish a session without knowing whether they missed a section. Philips is presenting the device as a smart oral-care tool that combines movement tracking, pressure sensing and on-handle feedback.
Launch timing and price
The Verge reports that Philips plans to release the Sonicare Next-Generation DiamondClean 9900 Prestige in Europe and the United States this fall. A broader global rollout is planned for 2027.
Philips has not announced the price. The Verge notes that earlier DiamondClean Prestige models have sold for $430, and reports that the new version is expected to cost more.
