Framework has revised memory options and prices for its Laptop 13 Pro after a steep increase in RAM costs, The Verge reported. The change matters for buyers because some preorder customers are being told their laptop configuration and price have been changed before delivery.
Framework said in a company blog post that updated pricing from its memory supplier came in at more than twice the cost of its earlier inventory. The company said the increase affects the LPCAMM2 memory modules used in the upcoming Laptop 13 Pro.
Preorders are affected
According to Framework, it has enough LPCAMM2 modules available to cover all existing Laptop 13 Pro preorders. The problem, the company said, is that its stock does not match the exact mix of 64GB, 32GB and 16GB modules customers selected when ordering.
The Verge reported that Framework is notifying some buyers that their preorder has been revised. Those changes can affect both the amount of memory in the system and the final price of the order.
Framework has apologized for the revisions, according to The Verge. The company is offering customers who do not want the changed configuration the option to cancel and receive a full refund of their deposit.
New orders cost more
Framework has also changed the configurations and prices listed for new Laptop 13 Pro orders on its website, The Verge reported. The prebuilt model now starts at $1,599 with an Intel Core Ultra 5 325 processor, 16GB of memory and 512GB of storage.
That starting price is $100 higher than the price Framework announced earlier, according to The Verge. The publication said the company has been unusually open about how rising RAM prices are affecting its product plans.
The update comes amid broader RAM price increases that The Verge has described as part of an ongoing memory shortage. Framework’s change shows how those component costs can reach customers even after preorders have already been placed.
