The final Coyote vs. Acme trailer debuted at San Diego Comic-Con, giving the long-delayed Looney Tunes courtroom comedy a fresh marketing push before its theatrical release. Ars Technica reported that the Coyote vs Acme trailer arrived during a convention kickoff that also brought a full trailer for Zach Cregger’s new Resident Evil film.
The movie had been shelved for years at Warner Bros. before Ketchup Entertainment acquired it, according to Ars Technica. That history has made its release a point of interest beyond the usual trailer cycle: the film is now headed to a wide theatrical run after being left off the calendar.
Coyote vs. Acme adapts Ian Frazier’s 1990 New Yorker satire “Coyote v. Acme,” Ars Technica reported. The premise turns decades of Wile E. Coyote’s malfunctioning gadgets into a legal case against ACME, the fictional company behind the explosive devices and other products that repeatedly backfired on him.
According to the official premise cited by Ars Technica, Wile E. Coyote teams with billboard accident lawyer Kevin Avery, played by Will Forte, to sue ACME. John Cena plays Buddy Crane, the company’s polished corporate attorney.
The cast also includes Lana Condor as Paige Avery, Kevin’s niece; P.J. Byrne as ACME lawyer Bill Pellicano; and Luis Guzmán as the trial judge, according to Ars Technica. Director Dave Green also used longtime Looney Tunes voice actor Eric Bauza for several classic characters, including Tweety Bird, Daffy Duck, Bugs Bunny and Foghorn Leghorn.
When does Coyote vs Acme come out?
Coyote vs. Acme is scheduled to open in theaters on Aug. 28, 2026, according to Ars Technica. The release follows Ketchup Entertainment’s acquisition of the film from Warner Bros.
Ars Technica said the final trailer includes some new comic beats, including Porky Pig appearing for a “pants-less modeling” audition. The footage also shows Cena’s lawyer questioning Tweety Bird, with the joke built around the character’s familiar speech pattern.
What did the Resident Evil trailer show?
San Diego Comic-Con also brought the full trailer for Sony Pictures’ new Resident Evil, directed by Zach Cregger, according to Ars Technica. Some attendees also saw the film’s first 18 minutes, the outlet reported.
Ars Technica reported that the Resident Evil film series has earned more than $1.2 billion worldwide since the first movie opened in 2002. Sony is trying another restart after an earlier reboot attempt struggled, with Cregger leading the new version.
According to the official logline cited by Ars Technica, the story follows Bryan, played by Austin Abrams, a medical courier pulled into a fight for survival over one disastrous night. The main cast also includes Paul Walter Hauser as Carl, Zach Cherry as Dave, Kali Reis as Pauline and Johnno Wilson as Max.
Cregger has said the film tells an original story with new characters inside the Resident Evil universe, according to interviews cited by Ars Technica. He has also described his approach as closer to Evil Dead II than to his film Weapons, while saying it stays faithful to the spirit of the games.
The trailer presents Bryan as a delivery driver transporting transplant organs to hospitals on a snowy night, Ars Technica reported. He accepts a higher-paying run outside “the zone” to Raccoon City General, hits a woman in the road while on the phone with his pregnant girlfriend, and soon faces a town overrun by zombies.
Resident Evil is scheduled to open in theaters on Sept. 18, 2026, according to Ars Technica.
