Blade Runner 2099 teaser previews Prime Video sequel series
Prime Video showed the first Blade Runner 2099 teaser at SDCC, setting a Nov. 25 premiere for the Michelle Yeoh and Hunter Schafer series.

The Blade Runner 2099 teaser gave San Diego Comic-Con attendees the first trailer look at Prime Video’s 10-episode follow-up to the film franchise. Prime Video said the series will premiere Nov. 25, 2026, with Michelle Yeoh and Hunter Schafer leading the cast.
The show arrives nearly five years after Ridley Scott first discussed plans for a television spinoff tied to 1982’s Blade Runner and the 2017 sequel Blade Runner 2049. At the SDCC panel, Yeoh and Schafer appeared with showrunner Silka Luisa, whose credits include Shining Girls, and the audience also saw an exclusive clip, according to Nerdist.
What is Blade Runner 2099 about?
According to Prime Video’s official synopsis, Blade Runner 2099 is set 50 years after Blade Runner 2049 in a Los Angeles remade after humanity’s fall from power. The story follows Cora, a fugitive who assumes the role of a Blade Runner, and Olwen, a Replicant with only days left to live, as they pursue a runaway whose secret could threaten the city.
Luisa told Entertainment Weekly that the series keeps the franchise’s noir foundation and centers on a mystery that connects the future of the story with its past mythology. She also said the show imagines a world after a failed human order, where humans have become hunted second-class citizens.
Yeoh plays Olwen, the dying Replicant, while Schafer plays Cora. Prime Video’s cast list also includes Hugo Hamlet as Buster Friendly, along with Dmitri Abold, Lewis Gribben, Katelyn Rose Downey, Daniel Rigby, Johnny Harris, Amy Lennox, Sheila Atim, Matthew Needham, Tom Burke and Maurizio Lombardi in roles that have not yet been disclosed.
What else did Prime Video and HBO show at SDCC?
Prime Video also presented a teaser for the third season of The Rings of Power, which premieres Nov. 11, 2026. According to the season synopsis, the story picks up five years after the fall of Eregion, with Sauron’s forces spreading across Middle-earth and Sauron working in Barad-dûr to create the One Ring.
The new season adds Jamie Campbell Bower as Celeborn, Galadriel’s long-lost husband, according to Prime Video’s casting information. Other additions include Zubin Varla as Khamul, Eddie Marsan as Thrain, Andrew Richardson as Anarion, Adam Young as an Orc named Marnukh and Simon Pegg as the voice of the Balrog.
HBO showed a full trailer for Lanterns, the DC series scheduled to premiere Aug. 18, 2026, on HBO Max. HBO’s logline says the show follows new Green Lantern recruit John Stewart, played by Aaron Pierre, and veteran Hal Jordan, played by Kyle Chandler, as they investigate a murder in the American heartland.
Amazon MGM Studios also brought Spaceballs: The New One to SDCC ahead of its April 23, 2027, theatrical release. The sequel brings back Mel Brooks as Yogurt, Rick Moranis as Dark Helmet, Bill Pullman as Lone Starr, Daphne Zuniga as Queen Vespa and George Wyner as Colonel Sandurz, with Lewis Pullman, Keke Palmer and Josh Gad joining the cast.
