Asus plans to sell a standalone version of its OLED Xbox Ally X20 handheld, changing course from an earlier plan to pair the device only with AR glasses, according to The Verge. The move matters for buyers interested in the OLED handheld who did not want to pay for a bundle built around a second accessory.

Asus spokesperson Anthony Spence told The Verge that the company is discussing when it will release the standalone model. Spence did not give a launch date, price or full retail plan, and said further announcements are expected.

The Verge reported that Asus had previously planned to sell the OLED Ally only as part of a package that included a pair of costly AR glasses. The new plan would give the handheld a separate sales path, though Asus has not yet said whether the bundle will also remain available.

The device is described by The Verge as an OLED version of the Xbox Ally X20. A photo published with the report shows the Ally X20 in front of Lenovo’s Legion Go 2, with both handhelds displaying Ori and the Will of the Wisps. The Ally X20 shown in the image has a translucent shell.

The Verge also said its reporter spent two hours using the OLED Ally at Asus’ offices in California. No additional specifications, pricing details or release timing were disclosed in the report.
