Apple HomePad October launch rumors are gaining shape, with Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reporting that Apple’s long-discussed smart-home display could arrive as soon as October. The device would mark a more direct Apple push into countertop home hubs, a category now led by products such as Amazon’s Echo Show and Google’s Nest Hub line.
Gurman described the product as a smart hub with a 7-inch square screen, according to The Verge’s account of the Bloomberg report. The device has often been described in earlier rumors as a HomePod-style speaker with a display, though Apple has not formally introduced it.
When will Apple HomePad launch?
Gurman reported that the device may launch as early as October. The timing would follow Apple’s planned September rollout of an upgraded Siri, which The Verge said is tied to Apple’s broader smart-home plans.
The smart display was previously expected to be shown in spring 2025, according to The Verge. That schedule shifted after Apple delayed its AI-enhanced Siri, with the hub’s launch then moved to line up with iOS 27 and Siri AI.
What is Apple HomePad expected to do?
The reported HomePad is expected to run a new operating system built from Apple’s tvOS, Gurman said. Its interface would use icon grids, widgets and apps that resemble elements from iOS and watchOS, according to the report.
Gurman said the upgraded Siri AI would play a central role in the device. The hub is also expected to support video chat, security functions and intercom features that work with other Apple Home devices.
One of the more unusual reported features is automatic personalization. Gurman said the device would be able to adjust what it shows, including text and icon size, based on who is looking at the screen.
Why Apple’s smart-home push matters
The Verge reported that Apple has long been rumored to be working on a dedicated home hub, but details had remained limited beyond the idea of a HomePod with a screen. Such a device would give Apple a first-party display for controlling smart-home products, handling calls and using Siri away from an iPhone, iPad or Mac.
Apple’s smart-home position has relied heavily on accessories made by other companies, The Verge noted. A dedicated hub would put Apple more directly against Amazon and Google in the home-display market, where voice assistants, cameras, intercom tools and smart-home controls are often bundled into one device.
Gurman also reported that Apple is preparing other home-related hardware. The lineup is said to include a new Apple TV device, a refreshed HomePod mini and a higher-end security camera that would compete with Amazon’s Ring products.
The report does not include pricing or a final product name. For now, the device remains a reported Apple smart-home hub with a possible October launch window and a feature set built around Siri AI, home controls and a small square display.
