The Mets Novig prediction market deal makes New York the first Major League Baseball club with a team-level partner in the emerging sports trading category. Novig said Thursday that the multi-year agreement gives it exclusive prediction market partnership rights with the Mets, a sign that MLB’s ties to the sector are expanding beyond league-wide arrangements.

Novig said its branding will appear across the Mets’ operations. A company spokesperson told Fortune that fans will see Novig signs at Citi Field, on the stadium video board and during game broadcasts, with Mets-specific contests, promotions and digital content also planned.

The company did not disclose financial terms or the exact length of the contract, according to Fortune. MLB did not answer Fortune’s questions about whether it expects to create a league-wide prediction market designation or leave those deals to individual teams.

What is a prediction market in sports?

A sports prediction market lets users trade contracts tied to event outcomes, with prices moving as buyers and sellers react to new information. Novig says its exchange matches users with one another, unlike a sportsbook model in which the operator takes the other side of a customer’s wager.

Novig, which launched in January 2024, is backed by Pantera Capital and is trying to compete in a field that includes Polymarket, Kalshi and Robinhood, according to Fortune. The company frames its business as a trading venue rather than a conventional sports betting book.

“Because our revenue comes from facilitating trading rather than betting against our customers, we don’t care who wins or loses. The result is a fairer system that doesn’t punish users for being successful,” a Novig spokesperson said.

What rules apply to Novig’s MLB markets?

Novig has been named an MLB Authorized Prediction Market, a designation that brings it into the league’s integrity program. Under that framework, Novig cannot offer certain high-risk markets, including contracts tied to one pitch, an umpire’s individual call or a single managerial decision.

Novig says those narrow markets carry greater risk because one person could influence the outcome without changing the final score, making potential abuse harder to spot. The limits are meant to reduce the chance that inside information or manipulation affects baseball-linked contracts.

MLB has already dealt with gambling-related cases. Fortune cited federal charges in 2025 against two Cleveland Guardians pitchers over allegedly rigged prop bets and leaked inside information, as well as MLB’s 2024 lifetime ban for Padres infielder Tucupita Marcano; both matters involved traditional sports betting platforms.

The Mets agreement comes after MLB in March named Polymarket its official prediction market exchange, giving that platform exclusive rights to use MLB team names and logos inside its products. MLB also announced a memorandum of understanding with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission to share information with regulators about possible integrity problems in baseball-related prediction markets.

Sports organizations have been signing more deals with prediction market companies over the past two years, according to Fortune. The NHL, MLS and UFC had already reached their own agreements, and ADI PredictStreet signed a multi-year deal with FIFA ahead of this year’s World Cup to become the tournament’s first official prediction market partner.
