Real Madrid beat Roma 4-3 at the Stadio Olimpico on October 14 after trailing 3-1 in their Champions League league-phase match. According to Al Jazeera, the visitors scored three times in seven late minutes, each goal coming from a corner situation, to leave Rome with their second win from two matches.

Antonio Rudiger scored the decisive goal in the 90th minute, completing a turnaround led by Carlos Espi and Endrick. The result put Real Madrid on six points, while Roma remained on one.

How did Real Madrid beat Roma 4-3?

Roma opened the scoring in the 20th minute when Marten de Roon struck from distance. Real Madrid levelled before half-time through Kylian Mbappe, who was making his 100th Champions League appearance, after Roma defender Mario Hermoso failed to cut out a pass.

Al Jazeera reported that Mbappe's goal was his 72nd in the competition. It also said the strike placed him in the tournament's all-time top five scorers, ahead of former Real Madrid forward Raul Gonzalez.

Roma regained control early in the second half. Rodrigo Mora set up Donyell Malen, who finished to restore the home side's advantage. Six minutes later, Malen ran onto a through ball and scored again; the goal stood after a VAR review reversed an initial offside call.

That made it 3-1, and Mbappe later had an effort ruled out for offside as Madrid searched for a way back. Roma had been playing their first home Champions League match in more than seven years, with supporters welcoming former manager Jose Mourinho with chants and banners, Al Jazeera reported.

Madrid's late set-piece recovery

Madrid began their comeback from a corner when Espi finished a rebound at close range. Endrick then headed in from another corner two minutes later to make the score 3-3.

Rudiger, formerly a Roma defender, supplied the final goal in the 90th minute. He got in front of his marker and converted from close range after a further corner delivery, according to Al Jazeera.

The match was the second league-phase game for both teams. Madrid's six-point total followed two victories, while Roma had taken one point from their opening two fixtures.
