Conor McGregor made weight on Friday for his first UFC bout in five years, clearing the final formal step before his rematch with Max Holloway at UFC 329. Al Jazeera and Reuters reported that McGregor weighed 170.5 pounds, or 77.3kg, for Saturday’s welterweight headliner in Las Vegas.
The fight tops the UFC 329 card at T-Mobile Arena and closes International Fight Week, according to Al Jazeera and Reuters. Holloway also made weight, coming in at 170 pounds, or 77.1kg.
McGregor, 37, has not fought since July 2021, when he broke his tibia during a bout with Dustin Poirier at UFC 264, Al Jazeera and Reuters reported. The Irish fighter, listed at 22-6 in mixed martial arts, returns in the welterweight division as he seeks to put himself back into the title picture.
Al Jazeera and Reuters reported that McGregor had previously been lined up to face Michael Chandler at UFC 303 in June 2024. That bout was tied to their rivalry on The Ultimate Fighter 31, which aired in 2023, but a toe injury to McGregor led to a postponement and the fight was not rebooked.
McGregor is a former UFC champion at featherweight and lightweight, according to Al Jazeera and Reuters. His return against Holloway brings back a matchup from 13 years ago, when McGregor defeated Holloway by unanimous decision on a UFC Fight Night card.
Holloway, a 34-year-old fighter from Hawaii, enters at 27-9 in mixed martial arts, Al Jazeera and Reuters reported. UFC 329 will be his official welterweight debut after years competing at 145 pounds and 155 pounds.
The buildup included a confrontation at Thursday’s news conference faceoff, according to Al Jazeera and Reuters. McGregor removed sunglasses from Holloway’s head and threw them to the ground.
Al Jazeera and Reuters reported that the sunglasses were Oakley Meta glasses and recorded video of the incident. Holloway later wrote on Twitter: “Man, I’m going to miss those sunglasses.”
The weigh-ins were held Friday at T-Mobile Arena, where McGregor and Holloway faced off ahead of the main event, according to Al Jazeera and Reuters. The bout is billed as McGregor vs Holloway 2.
