Iran said Qeshm Island was targeted by nearly a dozen “enemy projectiles” as new explosions were reported in southern Iran. Al Jazeera reported the blasts came during what it described as a fifth wave of US strikes since a ceasefire agreement was signed three weeks ago.

Iranian state media said military sites were hit in Hormozgan province, which includes Bandar Abbas and Qeshm Island. Al Jazeera reported that explosions were heard in both Bandar Abbas and on Qeshm Island.

Tehran said it had retaliated against US military assets in the region, according to Al Jazeera. The report did not give details on the specific US assets Iran said it targeted.

The initial report did not include casualty figures, a damage assessment or further information on the military sites Iran said were struck. It also did not provide details on the ceasefire agreement beyond saying it had been signed three weeks earlier.

The reported strikes add to a period of renewed military activity after the ceasefire, according to Al Jazeera’s account. Iranian officials framed the latest attack as involving “enemy projectiles,” while Iranian state media identified Hormozgan province as the target area.
