Tampa HVAC plumbing costs report puts median repair ticket at $493

Home Therapist Cooling, Heating & Plumbing has published a Tampa HVAC plumbing costs report built from its own paid invoices, giving local homeowners a new benchmark for repair quotes. The Tampa contractor’s 2026 report covers 2,523 completed jobs and $4.1 million in customer-paid work across 135 ZIP codes in Hillsborough, Pinellas and Pasco counties.
The report puts the median repair ticket across HVAC and plumbing work at $493. For homeowners weighing a quote, the value of the data is its local footing: the numbers come from completed Tampa Bay jobs rather than national estimating tools or manufacturer list prices.
What do Tampa HVAC and plumbing repairs cost?
On the air-conditioning side, AC tune-ups and maintenance were the most common service in the dataset, with 385 jobs and a median price of $248. AC capacitor replacement, another common cooling repair, had a median invoice of $269 across 93 jobs, with the middle half of invoices between $242 and $286.
Higher-cost cooling work showed wider spreads. The report listed AC condenser fan motor replacement at a $737 median, compressor replacement at a $2,312 median and thermostat installation at a $349 median. Full heat pump installation had a median of $4,493, while ductwork repair carried the highest median cited in the dataset at $6,260.
Plumbing work in the report generally started lower for common service calls. Drain cleaning showed a $299 median across 62 jobs, toilet repair and installation came in at $354, and faucet installation and repair had a $363 median.
Water heater jobs varied more. Tank water heater replacement had a median of $849, while water heater repair showed a $1,510 median and the widest plumbing spread cited, with the middle half of jobs ranging from $253 to $1,791.
Why the invoice data matters for local quotes
Home repair prices can vary by the exact failure, equipment involved and how far the problem has progressed. A median is the midpoint of a group of invoices, so half the jobs cost more and half cost less; an interquartile range, or middle half, filters out the lowest and highest quarters of results.
Owner Richard Morales said homeowners often receive repair estimates without a practical way to judge whether the number is typical for Tampa Bay. “We had two years of our own completed invoices sitting in the system, so we published them,” Morales said, adding that a homeowner facing an unusually high quote should be able to compare it quickly against local invoice data.
The company’s data also suggests one frequent repair has been relatively steady. AC capacitor replacement had a reported median of $269 in 2024, $260 in 2025 and $279 in 2026, even as the report points to broader equipment cost inflation in the industry.
The widest price gaps centered on failures that can worsen over time. Compressor replacement ranged from $459 to $5,748 in the report, a difference attributed largely to whether the problem was found before it damaged more of the system. Morales said that for jobs that sound similar, the eventual bill can differ sharply based on conditions set months earlier.
The company says its Tampa Bay HVAC and plumbing cost report uses median customer-paid invoice totals for completed work between May 2024 and April 2026. Each service line includes a job count, giving readers a way to judge how much weight to put on a given price category.
