Stan Kroenke Angels purchase plans took a formal step forward after Kroenke Sports & Entertainment agreed to acquire a controlling interest in the Los Angeles Angels from the Moreno family. The agreement would add Major League Baseball to Kroenke’s collection of teams, though the transaction remains pending and is expected to close in the first quarter of 2027.

The Angels said the agreement is subject to customary closing conditions and Major League Baseball approval. The announcement did not disclose a price, but CNBC, citing a person with direct knowledge of the transaction, reported a $4 billion valuation for the Angels and their regional sports network.

What does Stan Kroenke’s Angels purchase include?

KSE has agreed to buy a controlling interest, meaning it would hold the stake that gives it control of the franchise without necessarily owning every share. MLB.com reported that Arte Moreno will keep an undisclosed minority interest if the deal is completed.

The reported $4 billion figure includes both the club and its regional sports network, according to CNBC. Several outlets, including The Athletic and Forbes, have described that valuation as an MLB record, although the parties have not made the deal value public.

Moreno bought the Angels in 2003. If the agreement closes as expected, it will end his 23-year run as the club’s controlling owner, MLB.com reported.

What happens before the Angels sale closes?

Major League Baseball must approve the transaction, and the parties expect it to become official during the first three months of 2027. No ownership percentage for KSE or terms for Moreno’s remaining stake have been disclosed.

In a joint statement cited by CNBC and MLB.com, Kroenke said he viewed the Angels as a historic club in a strong market and said KSE looked ahead to the organization’s future. Moreno said his family believed KSE was the right next owner after stewarding the franchise for 23 years.

Kroenke’s growing sports portfolio

The Angels would become the latest team owned by KSE. The company already owns the NFL’s Los Angeles Rams, the NBA’s Denver Nuggets, the NHL’s Colorado Avalanche, Major League Soccer’s Colorado Rapids, the National Lacrosse League’s Colorado Mammoth and English Premier League club Arsenal, according to CNBC and MLB.com.

KSE also developed SoFi Stadium and the adjacent 300-acre Hollywood Park district in Inglewood, California, MLB.com reported. Bringing the Angels into the group would give Kroenke ownership stakes across the major North American men’s professional leagues as well as clubs in soccer and lacrosse.
