Patrick Rivera gets Contender Series bout with UFC contract in play
Baltimore welterweight Patrick Rivera will fight Sept. 1 at the UFC Apex after six straight wins and five finishes in that run.

Crazy 88 MMA welterweight Patrick Rivera is headed to Dana White’s Contender Series with a UFC contract opportunity at stake. The Patrick Rivera Contender Series bout is set for Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2026, at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, putting a Baltimore-area fighter on a national audition stage.
Rivera, 34, enters the fight at 13-4 after six consecutive victories. According to the gym, he has stopped five of his past six opponents, a run that includes a third-round rear-naked choke at Shogun Fights 32 in March 2026, a second-round knockout in November 2025 and a first-round TKO in July 2025.
When does Patrick Rivera fight on Contender Series?
Rivera is scheduled to compete on Dana White’s Contender Series 2026: Week 4 on Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2026. The event airs live at 8 p.m. EDT on Paramount+ from the UFC Apex.
He will face Adam Darby, who is listed at 7-1. Dana White’s Contender Series is a UFC-run showcase where fighters outside the promotion compete in front of UFC President Dana White and matchmakers, with contracts awarded to selected winners or standout performers.
Rivera has built much of his professional record in the regional fight scene, including appearances with Baltimore’s Shogun Fights promotion. His recent results show both submission and striking finishes, giving him a case as one of the East Coast welterweights trying to move from regional events into the UFC pipeline.
“Ever since I first stepped onto the mats, the UFC has been the destination, and now I’m standing at the door,” Rivera said in the announcement. “This isn’t luck or overnight success. It’s years of faith, discipline, and refusing to quit, and I know without a doubt that YaHUah has ordered every step to bring me here.”
Rivera trains out of Crazy 88 MMA, a Baltimore-area academy founded in 2005 by Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt Julius Park. The gym has grown from a 600-square-foot room into a 15,000-square-foot training center and operates locations in Elkridge, Owings Mills and Severna Park.
The academy offers Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, mixed martial arts, Muay Thai and boxing, serving both recreational students and competitors. Rivera’s appearance gives the Baltimore MMA training center a direct stake in one of the UFC’s most visible talent-entry formats.
Coach Sebastian Ramirez said Rivera and the team see the bout as a chance to earn a UFC roster spot through DWCS. He called Darby a strong opponent and said the team is preparing to show its experience and skill.
A win would not automatically guarantee Rivera a UFC deal, because Contender Series contracts are awarded at the UFC’s discretion. It would, however, put him in front of the decision-makers who use the series to identify fighters ready for the next level.
