Police in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines are investigating a shooting that killed four people and wounded four others in Green Hill, Central Kingstown, near the capital. The Saint Vincent shooting drew a stepped-up police response, while investigators said no arrests had been made and no motive had been publicly established.

Officers responded to reports of gunfire on Friday night, Acting Commissioner of Police Trevor Bailey said at a Saturday news conference, according to Al Jazeera and The Associated Press.

What happened in the Saint Vincent shooting near Kingstown?

Bailey said officers found two bodies on a public road, another in a vehicle parked on the road and a fourth on nearby land. A preliminary examination indicated that all four had apparent gunshot wounds, the report said.

Four injured people were taken to Milton Cato Memorial Hospital with gunshot injuries. Two were treated and released, while two remained hospitalized on Saturday, according to police.

Have police made arrests or identified a motive?

No arrests had been announced as of Saturday, and police had not publicly determined a motive. Assistant Commissioner of Police Brenton Smith said investigators were continuing their intelligence gathering and inquiry.

Al Jazeera and the Associated Press described the episode as an apparent act of gang violence. Bailey said authorities had seen retaliatory attacks between groups, but police had not said that was the established reason for this shooting.

What is the police response?

Authorities said they would increase patrols and searches and expand intelligence sharing among police units following the killings. Bailey also appealed to young people to avoid criminal groups and violence.

Police have recorded 37 homicides in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines so far this year, according to the report. The Green Hill attack is separate from a 2023 shooting in Kingstown and a fatal shooting on Canouan reported in June 2026.
