Israeli police prevented Palestinian worshippers from entering Al-Aqsa Mosque while more than 2,300 right-wing Israelis went into the compound under police protection, Al Jazeera reported. The incident matters because Palestinian officials say such entries are meant to erode the site’s longstanding status quo.
Al Jazeera reported that the entries took place during Tisha B’Av. The report said Israeli police barred Palestinian worshippers from accessing the mosque as the groups entered the compound.
