Real Madrid have signed France defender Ibrahima Konate from Liverpool on a contract running to June 30, 2030, the Spanish club said Thursday. The deal gives Madrid another senior centre-back as AFP reported the club reshapes its squad after two straight seasons without a major trophy.

Madrid said it had reached an agreement with Konate for the next four seasons. AFP reported that the 27-year-old arrives after the end of his contract at Anfield.

Konate joined Liverpool from RB Leipzig in 2021, according to AFP. During five seasons with the English club, he made 183 appearances and won the Premier League in 2025 and the FA Cup in 2022, along with other trophies, AFP reported.

Madrid add to summer rebuild

Konate is currently with France at the World Cup, AFP reported. His move follows other summer changes at Real Madrid, including the arrival of Jose Mourinho as coach.

AFP reported that Madrid have also signed Spain left-back Marc Cucurella and Portugal midfielder Bernardo Silva. The club have been linked with Inter Milan wing-back Denzel Dumfries, according to AFP, as part of the same squad overhaul.

Madrid have also acted to keep one senior defender. Centre-back Antonio Rudiger has signed a contract extension through 2027, AFP reported.

Other experienced defenders have left the Santiago Bernabeu. Dani Carvajal and David Alaba departed when their contracts expired, according to AFP.

Konate’s arrival therefore adds depth and experience to a back line that has already lost players and retained Rudiger. Madrid’s statement sets his deal through the end of June 2030, putting him among the club’s longer-term defensive pieces for the next phase under Mourinho.
