Microsoft plans to raise prices across its Xbox console lineup in August, and The Verge reported that several retailers are already listing discounts before the increase takes effect. The changes matter for buyers because some current sale prices sit well below the prices Microsoft is set to charge next month.

The Verge reported that Microsoft announced the upcoming increases on June 25, marking the second Xbox price rise in less than a year. The publication attributed the move to memory prices, which it said have been affecting industries including cars and computing.

The biggest discount highlighted by The Verge is for the 1TB Xbox Series X with a disc drive. The site reported that Walmart listed the console at $573, while Target listed it at $573.99, compared with the usual $649.99 price.

That same Xbox Series X model is scheduled to rise to $799.99 in August, according to The Verge. The model includes a built-in 4K Blu-ray player and is Microsoft’s flagship Xbox console, with support for fast 4K gameplay, the publication said.

Series S deals are smaller but still below future pricing

The Verge also pointed to discounts on the Xbox Series S, Microsoft’s smaller disc-free console. Dell listed the 512GB Xbox Series S for $349.99, while Target showed the same model at $379.99, according to the publication.

The Verge reported that the Xbox Series S usually sells for $399.99 and is set to increase to $499.99 in August. The console plays the same digital Xbox games as the Series X, though The Verge said it tops out at 2560 x 1440 QHD resolution rather than 4K.

The publication described Dell’s $349.99 listing as the best current deal for the 512GB Series S. It said Target’s higher listing could still appeal to shoppers who prefer local pickup or can use Target discounts such as the Circle Card.

Price gap widens before the increase

The reported sale prices create a wider-than-usual gap between today’s listings and the August prices. Based on the figures cited by The Verge, the Walmart Series X price is about $227 below the coming $799.99 price, while Dell’s Series S listing is about $150 below the coming $499.99 price.

The Verge included the deals as part of its Prime Day 2026 coverage. The site noted that it may earn a commission when readers buy through its links, under Vox Media’s commerce disclosure.
