Godox has introduced the C100, a slim compact camera built around a transparent LCD viewfinder rather than a rear color preview screen. The design matters because it puts the lighting brand into the renewed market for simple point-and-shoot cameras while giving the device a tool aimed at photographers.
The Verge reported that Godox, best known for photography lighting gear, is joining a category that has gained fresh attention even as smartphones have become strong everyday cameras. The outlet cited the continued popularity of Kodak’s small Charmera camera and demand for older Canon models among influencers as examples of that trend.
A viewfinder with camera data
According to Godox’s product page, the C100’s see-through display can overlay basic information while the user frames a shot. The examples shown by Godox include battery status and shooting settings.
The display also lets the C100 work as a light meter, according to Godox. In that mode, the camera measures the brightness of the scene being framed and suggests exposure settings that can be entered into another camera.
That gives the C100 a role beyond casual image capture. Godox presents the feature as a way to check exposure values through the same window used for framing, rather than through a separate meter or a conventional preview screen.
Known specifications
Godox’s listing says the C100 weighs 65 grams. It can record photos and videos in four aspect ratios, with 16:9 and 1:1 among the listed options.
Files are saved to a microSD card, with support for cards up to 128GB, according to Godox. The camera does not include wireless transfer, but images can be moved to a computer or mobile device through USB-C.
Several key specifications remain unclear. The Verge reported that Godox’s product page does not list details such as sensor resolution or video capability.
The C100 has launched in China, according to The Verge. Godox has not announced international availability, and its product page does not list a price.
The result is a compact camera with an unusual interface and limited public specifications. For now, Godox is positioning the C100 around its transparent finder and metering function rather than a detailed imaging spec sheet.
