Fujifilm is adding two single-use cameras to its QuickSnap range: a black-and-white model and a rugged version for outdoor use. The additions expand a long-running disposable camera line at a time when The Verge reports younger buyers have helped renew interest in disposable and retro film cameras.
The QuickSnap Black and White will cost $22.90, while the QuickSnap Active will cost $24.75, according to The Verge. Both models are expected to arrive later this fall.
Two different takes on the same format
Fujifilm says the QuickSnap Black and White comes loaded with monochrome film. In a press release, the company described the film as intended for images with “rich contrasts, tones, and textured grains.”
The black-and-white model will not require a specialized black-and-white developing service, according to Fujifilm. The company says the camera works with standard color film processing, which should make development easier for buyers who rely on common retail or mail-in processing options.
The second new model, the QuickSnap Active, is built for rougher use. Fujifilm describes it as a disposable camera for “unpredictable, all-weather, all-terrain adventures.”
Fujifilm says the QuickSnap Active is waterproof to 10 meters, or 35 feet. The camera also has a large green film-advance knob and a lever-style shutter, features the company says are meant to make it easier to use underwater.
Active model replaces an older waterproof QuickSnap
The QuickSnap Active will take the place of Fujifilm’s existing waterproof QuickSnap model, according to Fujifilm. The Verge reported that the older waterproof version remains available through retailers including Walmart and Target.
The new cameras keep Fujifilm in the market for simple film devices that do not require users to buy a separate camera body or load film themselves. The Verge connected the launch to a broader return of interest in disposable and retro film cameras among Gen Z users.
Fujifilm has not provided a more specific release date beyond the expected fall timing reported by The Verge. The company has published product pages for both the QuickSnap Black and White and the QuickSnap Active, outlining the cameras’ basic features ahead of their retail debut.
