Image Line has released FL Studio 2026 with a more capable version of Gopher, the music software’s AI chatbot, according to The Verge. The update matters for producers because Gopher can now perform some tasks inside a session instead of only answering how-to questions.
Gopher arrived last year as an interactive help tool for FL Studio, The Verge reported. Users could ask how to do something in the digital audio workstation, and the chatbot would return relevant instructions.
In FL Studio 2026, Gopher can act on some requests directly. The Verge’s Terrence O’Brien wrote that he asked it to create a four-on-the-floor kick pattern, place snares on the backbeat and add gated reverb to the snare, and the chatbot completed those steps.
The feature does not replace hands-on music programming. The Verge reported that Gopher cannot create or draw automation, add notes or chords to melodic tracks, or choose exact presets inside plug-ins.
That means some tasks still require the user to finish the job. If a user asks for a Rhodes-style electric piano sound, The Verge reported, Gopher can add a channel with Image Line’s Flex instrument loaded, but the user still has to find the specific patch.
Image Line also addressed privacy around the AI tool. The company told The Verge that it is not training its AI on user data and that recording sessions remain private.
FL Studio 2026 also includes a rebuilt version of Flex, Image Line’s broad-use virtual instrument. The Verge described Flex as comparable to Native Instruments’ Kontakt, with dozens of sound packs covering vintage synthesizers, realistic guitars and more experimental sounds.
The updated Flex adds a redesigned preset browser with stronger filtering and genre categories, according to The Verge. Its engine has also been changed to use fewer computing resources.
Image Line added automatic cloud backups for projects, but The Verge reported that the feature is for FL Cloud subscribers. The release also includes an audio logger that keeps a 60-second capture from the master output, giving users a way to save an idea even if they did not start recording.
FL Studio 2026 is available as a free upgrade, according to The Verge. The release continues Image Line’s pattern of adding major features without charging existing users for the new version.
