Bose’s SoundLink Max portable speaker is being discounted ahead of the July 4 weekend, according to The Verge. The deal matters for shoppers because the speaker normally sits in the premium Bluetooth speaker tier, where even a short sale can take a sizable bite out of the price.

The Verge reported that the SoundLink Max, usually priced at $399, was available for $279 at Amazon, Best Buy and Bose during the sale. A product card on The Verge’s page separately listed the speaker at $329 at Amazon and Bose, so buyers may need to check live retailer pricing before ordering.

According to The Verge, the SoundLink Max stood out in its review for strong audio and a broad stereo presentation. The publication said the speaker is built for outdoor use with an IP67 rating, which means it is designed to resist dust and water exposure such as sand and splashes.

The Verge said Bose rates the built-in battery for up to 20 hours per charge. The speaker can also send power to other devices through its USB-C port, according to the publication.

The SoundLink Max includes a removable carrying handle and a 3.5mm aux input, The Verge said. That wired input gives users another way to play audio when they do not want to rely on Bluetooth.

The Verge also noted some limits for a speaker at this price. Its review said the SoundLink Max lacks a microphone, so it cannot be used as a speakerphone, and it does not support Wi-Fi audio. The publication also said its colorful exterior can scratch easily and may show wear.

Other gadget deals listed

The Verge also cited several other discounts in the same deals roundup, including storage, charging accessories and a Lego Technic set.

  • The 2TB WD Black SN850X NVMe SSD was listed at Staples for $329.99, according to The Verge, which said that was about $20 below pricing at retailers such as Amazon. The publication said the M.2 2280 drive works in compatible PCs and PlayStation 5 consoles, though it recommended adding an inexpensive heatsink for console use.
  • A two-pack of Anker Zolo magnetic wireless chargers was available at Amazon for $23.99, down from the usual $39.99, The Verge reported. The publication said each Qi2 charger supports up to 15W wireless charging, works magnetically with MagSafe-ready iPhones from the iPhone 12 generation onward with some exceptions, includes a five-foot USB-C cable and does not come with a power adapter.
  • Amazon had the Lego Technic 2 Fast 2 Furious Nissan Skyline GT-R (R34) set for $111.99, a $28 discount, according to The Verge. The publication said the 1,410-piece kit includes front and rear suspension, moving pistons in a six-cylinder engine and risers that lift the rear of the model for drift-style play.

The Verge framed the offers as early July 4 weekend deals. As with most limited retail promotions, the listed prices may change by store or sell out without notice.
