US strikes Iran for eighth night as Tehran targets bases in Kuwait
CENTCOM said the attacks answered a deadly strike in Jordan, while Iran's military said it hit US assets at two Kuwaiti bases.

The United States carried out another round of attacks inside Iran early Sunday, extending its bombing campaign to an eighth straight night as the conflict spread across the Gulf. Iran said it responded by striking US military assets at two bases in Kuwait, raising the risk of a wider regional fight.
The US military said the latest strikes were meant to “swiftly punish” Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps after an attack on a US base in Jordan killed two American service members. US officials also said one service member remains missing and four others required hospital treatment after that attack.
US Central Command said on X that the new attacks were intended to weaken Iran’s ability to threaten commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz. CENTCOM also described the strikes as retaliation for Iranian ballistic missile and drone attacks on the US base in Jordan.
Iran’s semi-official Mehr and Tasnim news agencies reported strikes near Sirik in Hormozgan province and on Qeshm Island. Iranian reports said Sirik was hit at 1:30am local time Sunday, while Qeshm Island was hit at about 3:38am and again at 6:10am.
Tasnim also reported that the US military struck a site near Shadegan in Khuzestan province at 5:55am local time. Iranian reports said there were no casualties from the Sunday attacks and no damage to residential or commercial infrastructure.
Tasnim said reports of explosions in Qom, Arak and Behbahan were later denied by local authorities. The governor of Arak said the city’s situation was normal and that authorities had received no reports of an attack or explosion.
Iran says it hit US assets in Kuwait
Tasnim reported that Iran’s army targeted US military assets at two bases in Kuwait. Iran’s military said in a statement that, “in response to the repeated aggressions of the enemy,” it struck an ammunition depot at Al-Adiri camp and Patriot radar and air radar at Ali Al Salem base.
Iran’s supreme leader had warned before the latest US attacks that Washington would face “unforgettable lessons” if it continued striking Iran. The fighting began in February, according to Al Jazeera, AP and Reuters, and US military deaths have risen to 16, with more than 430 wounded.
The war first centered on control of the Strait of Hormuz, according to Al Jazeera, AP and Reuters. Those reports said US strikes have since widened to include bridges and desalination plants used for drinking water.
Iran’s state-run IRNA news agency said the Bonji desalination plant was destroyed, cutting water supplies to about 10,000 people. IRNA also said a desalination plant on Qeshm Island, inside the strait, was damaged.
Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi told state television that the US is violating the terms of an interim deal and is “no longer implementing them.” Iranian authorities said US strikes over the past three weeks have killed at least 50 people and wounded more than 500.
The Iranian embassy in India said late Saturday that two girls, Sogand Dardmand and Fatemeh Zahra Akbari, were among seven people killed in a US strike Thursday on Bandar Khamir in southern Iran. Al Jazeera’s Tohid Asadi, reporting from Tehran, said the last eight nights of US attacks had caused anger and frustration among people who do not know how long the confrontation will continue or whether diplomacy can end it.
