Palestinian families briefly returned to the Tulkarem refugee camp in the West Bank after more than a year of forced displacement, Al Jazeera reported. The visit showed the scale of damage left after months of Israeli military operations, with residents finding homes and streets in ruins.

According to Al Jazeera, families entered the camp only briefly and tried to remove what they could still use. Israeli soldiers watched as residents carried salvaged items out of the damaged area.

The camp had been inaccessible to many of its residents for more than a year, the broadcaster reported. When families returned, they found extensive destruction where homes and public routes had stood before the military operations.

Al Jazeera described residents as shocked by what they saw in Tulkarem. The report did not include a detailed count of damaged homes or a full assessment of the destruction.

The account focused on the brief return of displaced families and the immediate effort to recover belongings. Residents were able to take only limited items from the camp before leaving again, according to the broadcaster.

The Israeli military presence remained visible during the return, Al Jazeera reported. Families moved through the camp under the observation of soldiers while collecting possessions from damaged homes and streets.

Tulkarem refugee camp is in the West Bank. Al Jazeera published its report on June 17, 2026.
