Noah Lyles ran 14.67 seconds for 150 metres at the Golden Spike meet in Ostrava, setting the fastest known time in the rarely contested event. Al Jazeera and AFP reported that the American’s run on Tuesday lowered the previous world best of 14.72, set by Jamaica’s Kishane Thompson in Florida in April.

Lyles, 28, won the race ahead of South Africa’s Sinesipho Dambile, who finished in 14.78. Australian teenager Gout Gout took third in 14.96 at the meet in the eastern Czech city, according to Al Jazeera and AFP.

After the race, Lyles told Czech TV: “Was there ever any doubt? Was there ever any doubt? We came for a show.”

The performance added to a strong start to the outdoor season for Lyles. Al Jazeera and AFP reported that earlier this month he won the 100m at the Wanda Diamond League meet in Rome in 9.88 seconds, his fastest time since winning Olympic gold in Paris in 2024.

Lyles has also had strong indoor and outdoor results this year and was included on Time’s 2026 list of the 100 most influential people, according to Al Jazeera and AFP.

Werro beats Broeders-Bol in 800m

The Ostrava meet also featured Dutch runner Femke Broeders-Bol’s outdoor debut over 800 metres. Al Jazeera and AFP reported that Broeders-Bol, 26, finished second in 1 minute 57.13 seconds behind Switzerland’s Audrey Werro.

Broeders-Bol has moved from the 400m hurdles, an event in which she won two world gold medals. She has also won multiple medals as the anchor runner in Dutch 4x400m relay teams, including mixed relay gold at the Paris Olympics, according to Al Jazeera and AFP.

She told reporters after the race: “It was so cool, I love racing in Ostrava. It was tough, but I enjoyed it.”

Al Jazeera and AFP reported that Broeders-Bol ran her first 800m since 2017 in February, setting a Dutch national record of 1:59.07, before ending the rest of her indoor season because of a foot injury.

Werro, 22, won Tuesday’s race in 1:54.45 after pulling away from Broeders-Bol with 200 metres left. She said: “It was a really crazy run, but the time is very good, so I’m really happy.”

According to Al Jazeera and AFP, Werro’s time was the eighth fastest ever in the event. It was more than a second outside the 1:53.28 world record set in 1983 by Jarmila Kratochvilova of then-Czechoslovakia, who watched the race from the stands.

Walaza takes men’s 100m

South Africa’s Bayanda Walaza won the men’s 100m in 9.94 seconds, matching his personal best, Al Jazeera and AFP reported. Cameroon’s Emmanuel Eseme was second in 9.99.

American sprinters Ronnie Baker and Jordan Anthony finished fourth and fifth, respectively, with times above 10 seconds, according to Al Jazeera and AFP.
