At least nine Palestinians were killed Wednesday in Israeli air attacks and gunfire across Gaza, according to health officials in the territory. The deaths included two children and came despite a ceasefire that Al Jazeera reported has not ended the war in Gaza.
Medics said one person was killed in an Israeli air raid near a school in Gaza City. In southern Gaza, they said an Israeli strike hit a tent sheltering displaced people in the al-Mawasi area of Khan Younis, killing at least four people, including a 10-year-old child.
Later Wednesday, Palestinian health officials said Israeli gunfire killed a six-year-old boy in the Zeitoun neighborhood of Gaza City. Medics also reported two separate Israeli attacks in different parts of Gaza City that killed three people and wounded several others.
The reported deaths added to the toll since a ceasefire took effect in October. Gaza’s health ministry says at least 1,084 Palestinians have been killed in the territory since then.
Al Jazeera reported that progress toward a final agreement to end the war has stalled. The fighting has continued as Palestinians displaced by earlier attacks remain in temporary shelters, including tents in areas such as al-Mawasi.
Images by AFP, Anadolu and AP showed funerals and hospital scenes after the attacks. At Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis, Palestinians prayed over bodies of people killed in Israeli attacks, according to AP photo captions.
AFP images showed mourners grieving beside the body of a person killed in the strike on a tent in Khan Younis. Other images showed a woman reacting during a funeral and a girl injured in an Israeli attack being carried to the trauma ward at Nasser Medical Complex.
Anadolu images showed a funeral for Palestinians killed in Israeli bombing on a civilian vehicle in the Sabra neighborhood of the southern Gaza Strip. Another Anadolu photograph showed a man injured in the al-Mawasi tent attack arriving at Nasser Hospital.
The accounts from health officials and medics described multiple incidents across Gaza City and Khan Younis on the same day. The reported targets included a school area, a tent for displaced people, and locations in several Gaza City neighborhoods.
