Leaders of some of the world’s largest economies are due to gather in France this week for the annual G7 summit, Al Jazeera reported. The meeting matters because it is the group’s first since the start of the Iran war, which the network said has exposed divisions among members.

According to Al Jazeera, G7 members accused the United States of failing to coordinate with them before launching attacks linked to the Iran war. That dispute adds pressure to a forum already facing what the network described as changing global power dynamics.

The war’s effects are expected to weigh heavily on the summit agenda, Al Jazeera reported. The network cited the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and supply chain disruptions as serious challenges for G7 leaders.

Iran, Ukraine and China on the agenda

Al Jazeera said the Russia-Ukraine war is also expected to be a major topic at the meeting. Economic relations with China are also likely to feature prominently, according to the network.

The summit comes as the G7 faces questions about how effective it can be in responding to several crises at once. Al Jazeera framed the gathering around whether the group can address shifting geopolitical pressures while its members are divided over the Iran war.

The programme was presented by Scott McLean and ran for 27 minutes and 30 seconds, according to Al Jazeera. It focused on the relevance of the G7 as leaders prepare to meet in France.

Panel examined the G7’s role

Al Jazeera listed three guests for the discussion. Jacques Reland, a senior research fellow at the Global Policy Institute, joined the programme alongside Scott Lucas, professor of US and international politics at the Clinton Institute at University College Dublin.

Einar Tangen, a senior fellow at the Centre for International Governance Innovation, also took part, according to Al Jazeera. The network said the panel considered whether the G7 can deal with current geopolitical shifts.

The segment was published on June 14, 2026, Al Jazeera said. It was released as leaders prepared for the annual summit and as related issues, including Iran sanctions, China-US relations and protests around the G7, were also being covered by the network.
