Xreal has started taking $99 reservations for the Aura, its Android XR glasses project developed with Google, The Verge reported. The move gives prospective buyers a first way to claim a unit ahead of a planned full launch this fall.
The Verge reported that the Xreal Aura is expected to launch in the United States, United Kingdom, Japan, Canada and South Korea. Xreal has not announced the final retail price, according to The Verge.
Xreal says customers who reserve during a two-week launch offer will receive a $199 credit toward the purchase when the device goes on sale later this year, The Verge reported. Xreal describes that offer as a $100 saving on the final price, though the company has not disclosed what that final price will be.
A second Android XR device
The Aura is the second device tied to Google’s Android XR platform, according to The Verge. It follows Samsung’s Galaxy XR headset, which The Verge reported launched in October 2025 at $1,799.
Google has previously described the Aura as “a headset masquerading as glasses,” The Verge reported. That framing places the product between lighter display glasses and fuller mixed-reality headsets, though the companies have not released a full public specification list.
Best Buy will be the first physical retail partner for the Aura when it becomes available, according to The Verge. The report did not name other retailers or provide a specific release date beyond the fall launch window.
Chip and weight details
The preorder announcement also brings a few hardware details. The Verge reported that the Aura weighs under 95 grams and uses Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon Reality Elite chip, which Qualcomm describes as its latest XR platform.
Qualcomm XR chief Ziad Asghar said in a company statement cited by The Verge that the chip, paired with Google’s Android XR software, is intended to support better immersive experiences, stronger performance, greater intelligence and improved power optimization.
Xreal is showing the Aura glasses at Augmented World Expo in Long Beach, California, according to The Verge. The event runs from June 15 through June 18, and The Verge reported that more launch information could emerge around the showcase.
The Aura reservation program gives Google and Xreal a clearer route to market for Android XR hardware after Samsung’s headset launch. For now, the main unanswered question for buyers is price, since the $99 reservation and $199 credit do not reveal the final cost of the glasses.
