VSCO has launched Studio Pro, a mobile photo editing app aimed at professional photographers managing large sets of images. Bloomberg reported that the release puts VSCO more directly against Adobe in the market for paid creative tools.

VSCO said Studio Pro is available now on iOS and will come to macOS later this year. The company is also preparing a higher-priced subscription package, VSCO One, that is meant to bundle editing, delivery and business tools for working photographers.

What Studio Pro includes at launch

At release, VSCO said Studio Pro includes batch editing, a tool that can match the look of a reference image, and sharing through VSCO Galleries. Those features are aimed at photographers who need to apply edits across many photos rather than adjust each file one by one.

In a press release, VSCO said the app is built for large editing jobs such as weddings, portraits, events, sports, school photography and other high-volume shoots. The company has described the product as part of a broader push to support professional photo work beyond casual editing.

VSCO said additional Studio Pro features are planned after launch. The company listed RAW image support, more export controls and further editing tools, including options for changing image aspect ratios.

A $500 annual bundle is coming

VSCO One is scheduled to launch later this month at $500 per year, according to VSCO. The company is pitching the subscription as a way for photographers to use one set of connected tools instead of separate services for editing, client contact and delivering finished images.

The annual price matches the cost of Adobe Creative Cloud Pro on a yearly basis, according to The Verge. Bloomberg reported that VSCO’s new app and subscription plan are part of the company’s attempt to compete more directly with Adobe’s creative software business.

VSCO said the VSCO One subscription will include Studio Pro along with several of its other products and services. The bundle covers Capture, Galleries, Workspace, Sites, AI Lab, Canvas and the company’s Freelance Photographer business mentorship program.

The launch gives VSCO a clearer pitch to photographers who need workflow tools as much as filters and editing presets. VSCO has not said in the announcement when the promised macOS version or the later Studio Pro features will be released beyond the broad timing already provided.
