Schlage will begin selling its Sense Pro deadbolt in the US on June 29 for $399, according to The Verge. The lock is built around ultra wideband, or UWB, so supported devices can trigger hands-free unlocking as a user approaches the door.
The launch follows Schlage’s CES 2025 announcement of the Sense Pro, The Verge reported. The company says the deadbolt can also unlock through Apple’s Home Key, giving users an alternative to a physical key or biometric method.
How the UWB unlocking works
According to Schlage, the Sense Pro uses the company’s Converge technology for UWB. The system works with a home key on a compatible iPhone or Apple Watch and uses information about a person’s movement, direction and approach to decide when to unlock.
Schlage says the Sense Pro is its first lock with Matter over Thread support. The Verge reported that the lock can connect to a Thread-enabled Apple Home hub, including some Apple TV 4K and HomePod models, for lower-latency and more consistent smart-home performance.
The lock also supports Aliro, a smart-lock standard designed for UWB hands-free unlocking and NFC tap-to-unlock, according to The Verge. Schlage says support for Aliro digital keys in Samsung Wallet and Google Wallet is planned for later this year.
That planned update would extend UWB hands-free unlocking to compatible Google and Samsung devices, according to Schlage. It would also allow NFC tap-to-unlock through those wallet apps.
Remote access and battery features
Schlage says the Sense Pro includes built-in Wi-Fi and can be controlled away from home through either the Schlage Home app or Apple’s Home app. The company says the lock can run for up to six months under standard use.
If the batteries run out, Schlage says a USB-C port on the lock can provide temporary power. The deadbolt also has a touchscreen with a low-battery indicator so users can check its power status.
The Verge reported that the Aqara U400 is currently the only other lock with hands-free Aliro UWB unlocking. That model launched earlier this year at $270, below the Sense Pro’s $399 price.
The Verge’s Jennifer Pattison Tuohy tested the Sense Pro at CES in January 2025 and reported that it unlocked automatically on approach despite radio-frequency interference on the show floor. With the retail launch now set, buyers will soon be able to test whether Schlage’s UWB approach works as reliably in homes.
