Amazon Prime Day has brought discounts on several 4K televisions and streaming devices, according to The Verge senior reviewer John Higgins. The deals matter for TV shoppers because Higgins says the performance gap between recent model years has narrowed, making discounted 2025 and 2023 sets worth considering over newer 2026 models.
Higgins wrote that the best times to buy a TV are usually the run-up to the Super Bowl, Black Friday and Prime Day. Although new 2026 models are now available and some are discounted, he said many of the better prices are on last year’s televisions.
The Verge said TV quality has become closer across budget, midrange and flagship models. Higgins also said some 2025 OLED TVs can outperform newer RGB LED sets, even as the industry focuses attention on high-end RGB LED models such as Sony’s Bravia 7 II.
4K TV deals highlighted
The Verge listed the 65-inch TCL QM6K at $527.99 at Amazon and Walmart, with Best Buy priced $2 higher. Higgins described it as a strong lower-cost option for gaming, citing support for up to 4K at 144Hz with a PC, 1080p at 288Hz, variable refresh rate and low input lag.
For premium buyers, The Verge pointed to Sony’s 77-inch A95L QD-OLED at $3,498 at Walmart and $3,499 at Best Buy. Higgins said the Walmart price is 23% off and the lowest The Verge has seen for that model, which he described as one of the best TVs of recent years and a multi-year winner of the Value Electronics TV Shootout.
The Verge also featured TCL’s 75-inch QM8K Series QD-Mini LED TV at $1,398 at Amazon and Best Buy, down from $2,000. Higgins said the set remains competitive with 2026 TVs and represents TCL’s strongest performance-for-price entry in its 2025 lineup.
For shoppers seeking a larger bright-screen option, The Verge listed the 75-inch Hisense U8QG at $1,299 at Amazon and Best Buy. Best Buy also has the 100-inch version for $2,220, according to The Verge.
Higgins said the 65-inch Hisense U8QG he reviewed last year was the brightest TV he had tested, measuring more than 5,000 nits from a small window. He cited its HDR performance, reflection handling, AMD FreeSync Premium Pro variable refresh rate, refresh rates up to 165Hz, Dolby Vision gaming and motion handling, while noting that it has three HDMI 2.1 ports and uses USB-C DisplayPort for a fourth connection.
The Verge also listed Vizio’s 50-inch Mini-LED Quantum 4K TV at Walmart for $218, marked as 12% off a $248 price.
Streaming device discounts
Amazon’s own streaming hardware is also discounted. The Verge said the 2026 Amazon Fire TV Stick HD is $15.99, down 54% from $34.99, and noted that the 1080p stick has a smaller design, can draw power from a TV’s USB port and runs Amazon’s updated Fire TV OS.
The Verge listed the 2023 Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K Max at $35 at Amazon, Best Buy and Target, down 42% from $60. Higgins described it as Amazon’s most capable streaming stick, with Wi-Fi 6E, double the storage of its predecessor, Alexa support and idle-screen widgets and artwork.
For Google users, The Verge highlighted the Google TV Streamer 4K at $74.99 during Prime Day, calling it the lowest price the publication has seen for the device.
