Nex Playground is selling for $239 during Amazon’s Prime Day sale, The Verge reported, bringing the motion-based family game console $60 below its current $299 list price. The deal matters for buyers who were watching the device after a spring price increase, though The Verge noted the sale still does not match earlier $199 pricing.
The Verge described Nex Playground as a family-oriented, Kinect-like console built around motion-controlled games. According to The Verge, the system is an all-in-one device aimed at kid-friendly play rather than traditional controller-based gaming.
The Verge reported that Amazon has the console at $239, and its deal listing also showed the same price at Walmart and Best Buy. At the current MSRP, that works out to a 20% discount, according to the listing.
The sale price is close to the product’s original $250 price, The Verge reported. The console later moved to a $299 MSRP after an April price increase that The Verge linked to “RAMageddon,” its term for a broader RAM-related cost crunch affecting gadgets.
The Verge said Nex Playground also received a $60 discount shortly after that increase during an Amazon gaming deals event. The Prime Day offer repeats that reduced price, according to The Verge.
The lower price may not cover the full cost for families that want access to more games. The Verge reported that the console includes only a limited set of starter games, and that a Play Pass subscription is needed for a larger game library.
According to The Verge, Nex sells a three-month Play Pass for $49 and a 12-month pass for $89. The pass gives users access to a broader catalog of games than the starter selection, The Verge reported.
The Verge’s prior coverage said the console’s motion play is imperfect but has appealed to many parents. The publication also said one of its editors found that the device kept his children engaged enough that they asked for more playtime, even while sick.
For shoppers comparing current prices with past deals, The Verge’s reporting points to a mixed picture: the Prime Day discount brings Nex Playground below its raised MSRP, but not back to the best $199 offers seen before the RAM-related price pressure.
