Lenovo has announced the Tab Plus Gen 2, a new Android tablet built around louder audio rather than a thin profile. The update matters for buyers who use a tablet as a video screen or room speaker, because Lenovo is adding another speaker, a larger rear audio housing and a more flexible kickstand.

Lenovo says the Tab Plus Gen 2 will be sold “soon” in selected global markets, but the company has not given exact launch dates or country availability. The model will start at $399.99, according to Lenovo.

The price is higher than the first Tab Plus, which The Verge reported launched in the U.S. at $289.99 after a broad international release. Lenovo has not said whether the new version will follow the same U.S. rollout pattern.

Audio remains the main pitch

The first Tab Plus used eight built-in speakers and needed a 13.58mm bump on the back to fit them, according to The Verge. Lenovo says the Gen 2 increases the count to nine speakers and uses a circular rear bump that measures 22.7mm thick.

Lenovo says the speaker system is tuned for Dolby Atmos and combines tweeters and woofers, with an emphasis on stronger bass. The tablet also includes sound modes with EQ settings for movies and music, according to the company.

Like the earlier Tab Plus, the Gen 2 can work as a standalone Bluetooth speaker. Lenovo says users can stream audio to it from another device, turning the tablet into a portable speaker when the screen is not the main focus.

A thicker bump with a new stand

Lenovo is using the larger rear speaker section to house a fold-out kickstand. The company says the stand rotates 360 degrees and can hold the tablet in both landscape and portrait orientations.

The design keeps the Tab Plus line aimed at media use. A built-in stand is useful for watching video, joining calls or playing audio from a fixed position, and Lenovo is tying that feature directly to the tablet’s expanded speaker hardware.

Core specs and software

Lenovo says the Tab Plus Gen 2 runs on MediaTek’s Dimensity 7400 octa-core processor. Configurations include 6GB to 12GB of RAM and 128GB to 256GB of storage, with microSD expansion support up to 2TB.

The tablet has a 12.1-inch LCD display with a 2.5K resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate, according to Lenovo. The battery has been increased to 10,200mAh, and Lenovo estimates it can support up to 15 hours of YouTube viewing on a charge.

Lenovo says the front camera remains 8 megapixels, while the rear camera rises to 13 megapixels from the previous 8-megapixel unit. The Tab Plus Gen 2 will ship with Android 16.

For software support, Lenovo is promising two years of Android operating system updates and four years of security patches. The company says that security support will run until 2030.
