Amazon has lowered the Kindle Colorsoft Essentials Bundle to $182.97 in an early Prime Day promotion, according to The Verge. The deal matters for shoppers considering a color e-reader because the bundle’s listed price is $334.97, putting the current offer at 45% off.

The Verge said the sale is the lowest price it has seen for this specific package. The offer is limited to Amazon Prime members, according to the report.

The bundle includes the 16GB Kindle Colorsoft, a USB power adapter and a leather folio cover, The Verge reported. The cover is available in ruby or walnut, according to the same report.

What the Colorsoft adds

The Kindle Colorsoft stands apart from other Kindle models because it uses a color E Ink display, The Verge said. The publication said that makes it useful for comics, graphic novels, illustrated books and browsing book covers before choosing what to read.

In its assessment, The Verge said the screen produces dark line work and borders, strong color saturation and a quicker refresh rate than other comparable devices. Those display traits are the main reason to consider the Colorsoft over a standard monochrome Kindle, according to the report.

The Verge also noted that the device supports color highlighting. Readers can mark text in four colors, then filter and search those highlights, according to the report.

The color panel also gives readers options for contrast and boldness, The Verge said. That may matter for books with illustrations or documents where visual separation helps with reading, though the report did not provide performance figures for those settings.

Durability and battery

The Kindle Colorsoft carries an IPX8 water-resistance rating, according to The Verge. The publication said that rating makes the e-reader suitable for use near a pool and allows it to be rinsed after a drink spill.

Battery life should last for weeks on one charge, depending on how the device is used, The Verge reported. The report described that endurance as similar to other Kindle models.

The Verge’s deal listing links the sale to Amazon’s early Prime Day offers. The publication also disclosed that Vox Media may earn a commission when readers buy through its links.
