HBO Max, Paramount+ and Discovery+ are slated to become one service over time, Skydance said after completing its acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery. The HBO Max Paramount Plus merger plan also covers Discovery+, though Skydance has yet to say when the new service will arrive or how subscribers will be moved.

The company made the commitment in its announcement of the completed deal, according to Ars Technica, Engadget and The Verge. The combined company is called Skydance.

When will HBO Max, Paramount+ and Discovery+ become one service?

There is no announced timetable. Skydance said the services will unify “over time,” but did not provide a launch date for a combined app or service, the outlets reported.

Skydance also has not announced the name or price of the unified service. The company has not disclosed its technical platform or the process for moving existing subscribers to it, according to the reports.

What has Skydance confirmed?

The confirmed plan applies to Skydance’s direct-to-consumer streaming services, including HBO Max, Paramount+ and Discovery+. It is a future consolidation plan, rather than an indication that the three apps have already been merged.

The acquisition brought Paramount Skydance and Warner Bros. Discovery together under Skydance. The Verge reported that HBO chief executive Casey Bloys will oversee the combined streaming services.

  • HBO Max, Paramount+ and Discovery+ are included in the planned unified service.
  • Skydance says the change will happen over time.
  • No date, product name or price has been announced.
  • No technical-platform or subscriber-transition details have been announced.

What does Discovery+ add to the plan?

Discovery+ is specifically included in Skydance’s wording, Ars Technica and Engadget reported. Discovery Inc. launched the service in 2021, before its 2022 merger with WarnerMedia created Warner Bros. Discovery, according to Ars Technica.

There is some precedent for HBO’s streaming operation carrying Discovery programming. Engadget reported that HBO Max, during its period under the Max name beginning in 2023, offered Discovery reality and documentary programming alongside WarnerMedia films and television. That earlier arrangement does not establish how Skydance’s future combined service will operate.

For now, the company’s public statement establishes the scope of the plan but leaves the timing and customer details unresolved.
