United Premier 1K 2027 qualification will require 32,000 Premier qualifying points, or PQP, under rules that take effect Jan. 1. United Airlines is also dropping the flight-count route to MileagePlus Premier status, removing an option for members who previously qualified through lower PQP totals plus flight requirements.

Premier 1K is United’s highest published Premier tier. The new 32,000-PQP requirement is 4,000 points above the former points-only threshold of 28,000, an increase of about 14.3%, according to United’s published qualification rules.

How will United Premier status work in 2027?

United says PQP will be the sole metric used to qualify for Premier status, though travelers must still take at least four flights operated by United or United Express during 2027. The airline describes the change as a simplification of its status rules.

  • Premier Silver: 6,000 PQP
  • Premier Gold: 12,000 PQP
  • Premier Platinum: 18,000 PQP
  • Premier 1K: 32,000 PQP

The Silver, Gold and Platinum thresholds match the earlier PQP-only route. Under the prior system, however, members could also qualify with a combination of Premier qualifying flights, or PQF, and a lower PQP total: 15 flights and 5,000 PQP for Silver; 30 and 10,000 for Gold; and 45 and 15,000 for Platinum.

For Premier 1K, the prior choices were 60 qualifying flights plus 22,000 PQP, or 28,000 PQP without the flight count. The 2027 rules eliminate both the qualifying-flight targets and the lower-PQP paths tied to them.

How can MileagePlus members earn PQP?

United says members can earn PQP on eligible travel with United, United Express and Star Alliance partners, on certain award travel and through eligible co-branded United card spending. On United and United Express flights, the airline awards one PQP for each U.S. dollar of base airfare and carrier-imposed surcharges; taxes and other fees do not qualify.

United also says some existing Premier members with an eligible United card may receive a head start for 2027. Those who meet the card and status conditions can receive starter PQP equal to 5% of the requirement for their earned tier: 300 PQP for Silver, 600 for Gold, 900 for Platinum and 1,600 for 1K.

Eligibility for that deposit depends on conditions including having an eligible active card account by Dec. 31, 2026, and holding the relevant Premier status as of Feb. 1, 2027, United says. Card-earned PQP is also subject to annual limits that vary by card.

United posted the changes Oct. 13. Its current qualification page says members who earn Premier status during 2026 keep it through Jan. 31, 2028.
