US President Donald Trump took his first flight Wednesday on a new Air Force One aircraft gifted by Qatar, Al Jazeera reported. The trip matters because it put into service a refurbished Boeing 747 valued at $400 million, according to Al Jazeera.

Trump departed from Joint Base Andrews in Maryland and flew to North Dakota, Al Jazeera reported. His trip was for the dedication of a museum honoring Theodore Roosevelt, according to the network.

The aircraft was described by Al Jazeera as a Qatari-gifted, refurbished Boeing 747. Trump called it “the best plane ever built,” according to Al Jazeera.

A Reuters photograph from Joint Base Andrews showed Trump speaking with reporters before boarding the aircraft on July 1, 2026. Reuters identified the plane as the new Air Force One and said it had been gifted by the Qatari government.

Al Jazeera reported the flight as Trump’s maiden voyage aboard the new presidential aircraft. No additional details on the museum dedication, the refurbishment work or the terms of the gift were included in the report.
