Pet owners dealing with fur on floors, furniture and clothing may need a vacuum designed for more than routine dust pickup, according to NBC Selected. The outlet’s latest shopping guide says models built for pet hair should be able to handle hair, litter and other common pet messes across carpet, upholstery and hard floors.

NBC Selected said experts pointed to several features that matter most: anti-tangle brush heads, rotating brush rolls and included attachments for furniture, corners and other hard-to-reach spots. The guide covers upright, canister, cordless stick and handheld vacuums from brands including Bissell, Shark, Dyson, Kenmore and Tineco.

Top recommendations

NBC Selected named the Bissell Pet Hair Eraser Turbo Lift-Off Vacuum its best overall pick for pet hair. The corded, bagless upright was listed at $299.99 at Amazon and Target, with a HEPA filter, self-cleaning brush roll, LED headlights, a 1-liter bin and crevice and dusting attachments, according to the guide.

For shoppers looking below the $200 category, NBC Selected highlighted the Bissell Pet Hair Eraser Turbo Plus. The guide said the corded upright weighs 13.8 pounds, has a 0.75-liter bin, uses a foam filter and includes a crevice tool; it also cited the model’s anti-tangle brush roll and push-button bin emptying.

The Shark NV352 Navigator Lift Away Upright Vacuum was selected as the guide’s Shark upright pick. NBC Selected said the model was listed at $179.99 at Amazon and Wayfair, down from $199.99, and noted its detachable pod, swivel steering, HEPA filtration system and included wide upholstery and crevice tools.

Other models in the guide

NBC Selected also included the Dyson Ball Animal 3 Extra Upright Vacuum as its Dyson upright choice. The guide said the corded, bagless model was listed at $549.99 at Best Buy and Target and includes a tangle-free turbine tool, dog grooming tool, stair tool and combination tool.

The Dyson model has three suction modes for different floor types, a 35-foot cord and an automated brush roll that can be switched off, according to NBC Selected. The guide said the vacuum’s dog grooming tool is intended to remove loose hair, dead skin and allergens from long-haired pets.

For canister-vacuum shoppers, NBC Selected picked the Kenmore 600 Series Pet-Friendly Pop-N-Go Vacuum. The guide said the corded, bagged model has a HEPA filter, a 28-foot cord, a telescoping wand that extends up to 10 feet and onboard storage for attachments including a crevice tool, bare-floor tool, dust/upholstery tool and Pet PowerMate tool.

NBC Selected’s stick-vacuum pick was the Tineco Pure One S11 Cordless Vacuum Cleaner. The guide listed it at $189 at Amazon and said it has a 4-stage HEPA filtration system, LED headlights, automatic suction adjustment, a 0.6-liter bin and attachments including a power brush, mini power brush, dusting brush, crevice tool and hair-cleaning tool.

The guide’s handheld pick was the Bissell Pet Hair Eraser Cordless Hand Vacuum, listed at $79.99 at Amazon. NBC Selected said its recommendations were based on expert guidance, high ratings, top-seller status or staff favorites from pet owners.
